Kausala has a population of 3,775,<ref name="population"/> which makes it the largest village of the municipality in terms of population.<ref>[http://www.iitti.fi/kausala Kausala - Iitti] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221125111155/https://www.iitti.fi/kausala |date=2022-11-25 }} (in Finnish)</ref> The significance of Kausala for the municipality is largely due to its central location along the [highway](/source/highway), [Finnish national road 12](/source/Finnish_national_road_12) (Vt12), and the [Lahti–Kouvola railway](/source/Lahti%E2%80%93Kouvola_railway) passing through the village. The nearest lakes are [Lake Leininselkä](/source/Leininselk%C3%A4) and [Lake Urajärvi](/source/Uraj%C3%A4rvi) in the northern part of the village.
