==Biography==
Westrup was born, and raised, at [Hornsey](/source/Hornsey) in north London, into a family of at least eight children.<ref name="SG2019">{{cite book|author=Sara Gray|publisher=Dark River|year=2019|title= British Women Artists. A Biographical Dictionary of 1000 Women Artists in the British Decorative Arts |isbn=978-1-911121-63-3}}</ref> No record of a formal art education for Westrup has been identified but it is known that around 1911 she moved, with her artist sister Emily (1870–1960), to [Lamorna](/source/Lamorna) in [Cornwall](/source/Cornwall).<ref name="SG2019"/><ref name="CAI">{{cite web|url=https://cornwallartists.org/cornwall-artists/ethel-kate-westrup|website=Cornwall Artists Index|year=|title=Ethel Kate Westrup |access-date=19 July 2021}}</ref> Kate Westrup produced oil paintings and drawings, often of animal subjects, and had works shown at the [Royal Academy](/source/Royal_Academy) in London, with the [New English Art Club](/source/New_English_Art_Club) and in 1912 exhibited chalk drawings of dogs at the Alpine Club.<ref name="SG2019"/> She contributed illustrations to the 1914 ''Punch Book of Hunting''.<ref name="MAW">{{cite book|author=Mary Ann Wingfield|publisher=Antique Collectors' Club|year=1992|title= A Dictionary of Sporting Artists 1650-1990 |isbn=}}</ref> Westrup was elected an associate member of the [Society of Women Artists](/source/Society_of_Women_Artists) in 1923.<ref name="MAW"/> In the early 1920s, with [Ella Naper](/source/Ella_Naper), Westrup founded the Lamorna Pottery which produced a variety of ceramics and domestic items which were sold through gallery outlets locally and also in Manchester, Liverpool and elsewhere.<ref name="SG2019"/> The Pottery closed after Westrup's death in 1928.<ref name="SG2019"/><ref name="CAI"/>
