**Kate Mason** (born 22 November 1987[citation needed]) is a British sports journalist and broadcaster.

## Personal life

Mason grew up in the village of [Oundle](/source/Oundle) in [North Northamptonshire](/source/North_Northamptonshire) and educated at [Oundle School](/source/Oundle_School). Her mother was an English teacher and Mason read English Literature at [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University). She decided to pursue a career in sports journalism after being inspired by female journalists such as [Clare Balding](/source/Clare_Balding) at the [2012 Summer Olympics](/source/2012_Summer_Olympics) and [Jacqui Oatley](/source/Jacqui_Oatley) on *[Match of the Day](/source/Match_of_the_Day)*.[1][2] Her mother is a [Wolverhampton Wanderers](/source/Wolverhampton_Wanderers) fan but like her father, Mason is a fan of [Tottenham Hotspur](/source/Tottenham_Hotspur).[3]

## Career

Mason started sports reporting by reporting on [Squash](/source/Squash_(sport)) and was featured in *[The Daily Star](/source/Daily_Star_(United_Kingdom))* and *[Metro](/source/Metro_(British_newspaper))* newspapers.[4] She joined a training scheme at the [BBC](/source/BBC) in which her roles included working on *[BBC Radio London](/source/BBC_Radio_London)* and [BBC Radio 5](/source/BBC_Radio_5_Live) sports comedy panel show *[Fighting Talk](/source/Fighting_Talk)*, a show she would later appear on numerous times as a guest, and as presenter [Colin Murray](/source/Colin_Murray) noted, the first member of staff to come back and win.[5]

Mason worked for *[ITN](/source/ITN), [Talksport](/source/Talksport)*, and then for *[beIN Sports](/source/BeIN_Sports)* in [Doha](/source/Doha) as one of the channel’s main presenters.

From 2019 to 2021 Mason was a presenter on *[Sky Sports News](/source/Sky_Sports_News)*.[6]

She joined *[The Football Ramble](/source/The_Football_Ramble)* as a regular host in 2020 alongside [Jules Breach](/source/Jules_Breach), [Andy Brassell](/source/Andy_Brassell) and [Vithushan Ehantharajah](/source/Vithushan_Ehantharajah). As well as hosting regular shows Mason presents the *Football Ramble Book Club* and interview show *The Drop In*, for which Mason interviews a special guest, such as former England manager [Glenn Hoddle](/source/Glenn_Hoddle).[7][8][9] Her audio documentary "Inside the Qatar World Cup" for the Football Ramble won a bronze award at the [British Sports Journalism Awards](/source/British_Sports_Journalism_Awards) in March 2023.[10]

In 2023, Mason took up the role of anchor on Eurosport’s coverage of the UCI Mountain Bike World Series alongside former Olympic Champion [Bart Brentjens](/source/Bart_Brentjens).[11] She is also a regular commentator on BBC Final Score.[12]

She has also appeared as a guest on *[The Guardian](/source/The_Guardian)’s [Football Weekly](/source/Football_Weekly),*[13][14] and presented on *[Rangers TV](/source/Rangers_TV)*,[15][16] and guest presented the television highlights of the [English Football league on *Quest*](/source/EFL_on_Quest).[17]

In 2024, Mason anchored TNT Sport's coverage of England's test series in India, alongside former England Internationals [Sir Alastair Cook](/source/Alastair_Cook) and [Steven Finn](/source/Steven_Finn).[18] That year, she was part of the Discovery+ coverage of the [2024 Paris Olympics](/source/2024_Paris_Olympics).[19] In March 2026, Mason hosted the award-winning podcast 'View From The Lane' whilst usual host, Danny Kelly, was recuperating from illness.[citation needed]
