# Kate Levering

**Kate Levering** (born January 3, 1979) is an American actress[1][2] and dancer. She was nominated for a [Tony Award](/source/Tony_Award) for her role in the 2001 musical *[42nd Street](/source/42nd_Street_(musical))*.[3] She is best known for her role as Kim Kaswell in the Lifetime comedy-drama series *[Drop Dead Diva](/source/Drop_Dead_Diva)*.

## Life and career

Levering was born in [Sacramento, California](/source/Sacramento,_California).[4] Levering attended [El Camino Fundamental High School](/source/El_Camino_Fundamental_High_School), where she took part in school musicals and dance classes before graduating in 1997 and leaving for [New York City](/source/New_York_City) to pursue a career on [Broadway](/source/Broadway_theatre). In 2001 she was cast as Peggy Sawyer in the revival of *[42nd Street](/source/42nd_Street_(musical))*. She was nominated for the [Tony Award](/source/Tony_Award) for Best Featured Actress in a Musical category[3] and won the [Fred Astaire](/source/Fred_Astaire) Award for Best Female Dancer for her [tap dancing](/source/Tap_dancing) in the show. She only performed the role on Broadway for a short three-month period, and is featured on the cast album, but is not taped for Lincoln Center Archives.

Levering left *[42nd Street](/source/42nd_Street_(musical))* to star in the notorious Broadway flop *[Thou Shalt Not](/source/Thou_Shalt_Not_(musical))*, composed by [Harry Connick, Jr.](/source/Harry_Connick,_Jr.), and choreographed by [Susan Stroman](/source/Susan_Stroman).[3]

On television, Levering has made guest appearances on shows such as *[Home Improvement](/source/Home_Improvement_(TV_series))*, *[Law & Order: Special Victims Unit](/source/Law_%26_Order:_Special_Victims_Unit)*, *[Cold Case](/source/Cold_Case_(TV_series))* (episode: "Dog Day Afternoons") and *[Witchblade](/source/Witchblade)*. In 2002, she played the role of Jeanne Martin in the TV movie *[Martin and Lewis](/source/Martin_and_Lewis_(film))*, starring [Sean Hayes](/source/Sean_Hayes_(actor)) and [Jeremy Northam](/source/Jeremy_Northam). From 2009 to 2014, Levering played the role of Kim Kaswell in [Lifetime's](/source/Lifetime_(TV_network)) comedy-drama series *[Drop Dead Diva](/source/Drop_Dead_Diva)*.[5] Levering also has starred in independent films: *[Like Dandelion Dust](/source/Like_Dandelion_Dust)* in 2009, and *Breaking the Girls* in 2012.

In 2016, Levering was cast as the adult Annette Hargrove in the NBC drama *[Cruel Intentions](/source/Cruel_Intentions_(pilot))*, based on the [1999 film of same name](/source/Cruel_Intentions). The role was played by [Reese Witherspoon](/source/Reese_Witherspoon) in the film.[6]

## Personal life

Levering married businessman [Reza Jahangiri](/source/Reza_Jahangiri) on April 20, 2013 at [The Beverly Hills Hotel](/source/The_Beverly_Hills_Hotel).[7] Their son, Holden Robert Jahangiri, was born in July 2013. Kate's pregnancy was written into her role on *Drop Dead Diva*.[8][9] In March 2016, Levering announced that she had given birth to a second son.[10]
