# Kate Bliss

**Kate Bliss** (née **Alcock**; born 1975) is an English [antiques](/source/Antiques) expert and television presenter.

Kate Bliss has appeared on the [BBC](/source/BBC)'s *[Bargain Hunt](/source/Bargain_Hunt)*, *[Flog It!](/source/Flog_It!)* and *[Secret Dealers](/source/Secret_Dealers)*, and has presented *[Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is](/source/Put_Your_Money_Where_Your_Mouth_Is_(TV_series))*. Bliss specialises in [jewellery](/source/Jewellery) and [silver](/source/Silver), and is a fellow of the [Great Britain Gemmological Association](/source/Gemmological_Association_of_Great_Britain).[1]

## Early life

Bliss was born Kate Alcock in 1975 in [Herefordshire](/source/Herefordshire), she grew up in [Hampton Bishop](/source/Hampton_Bishop) and later [Dorstone](/source/Dorstone).[1] Educated at [Hereford Cathedral School](/source/Hereford_Cathedral_School), she then read [English Literature](/source/English_Literature) at [Brasenose College](/source/Brasenose_College), [University of Oxford](/source/University_of_Oxford) before studying [fine art](/source/Fine_art).[1]

## Career

A member of the [Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors](/source/Royal_Institution_of_Chartered_Surveyors), having previously worked for her father's valuation and auction business,[1] she joined Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers.[1] She then joined [Philip Serrell](/source/Philip_Serrell)'s auction business. In light of her growing young family, Bliss currently runs her own Fine Art Valuation business, and works in association with a number of auction houses as a jewellery and silver expert, including [Charles Hanson's business](/source/Charles_Hanson_(auctioneer)).[2]

Bliss made her television debut after being spotted by the crew of *Bargain Hunt*, when they were on a visit to Brightwells auction house filming an episode. She then became an antiques expert on the programme, and later made appearances on *[Flog It!](/source/Flog_It!)* and *[Secret Dealers](/source/Secret_Dealers)*. Bliss has presented *[Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is](/source/Put_Your_Money_Where_Your_Mouth_Is_(TV_series))*.

## Personal life

She has been married to Jonathan Bliss since 2005; the couple have two children.[1]

Bliss is a talented pianist having performed in her early teenage years at Dorstone parish church Herefordshire, as reported in the local church magazine in July 1989.

Bliss is a supporter of [St Michael's Hospice](/source/St_Michael's_Hospice) and the [Alzheimer's Society](/source/Alzheimer's_Society), since her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.[1]
