# Karol Ike

Polish-Canadian photographer and cinematographer

**Karol Ike-Duninowski** (October 1, 1935 - September 16, 2022), known professionally as **Karol Ike**, was a [Polish](/source/Poland)-[Canadian](/source/Canada) photographer and cinematographer.[1] He was most noted for his work on the 1988 film *[Malarek](/source/Malarek)*, for which he received a [Genie Award](/source/Genie_Award) nomination for [Best Cinematography](/source/Canadian_Screen_Award_for_Best_Cinematography) at the [10th Genie Awards](/source/10th_Genie_Awards) in 1989.[2]

Born and raised in [Warsaw](/source/Warsaw), he emigrated with his family to [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland) after [World War II](/source/World_War_II), before moving to Canada in 1961, where he opened his own photography studio before moving into cinematography.[3]
