'''Karl Sutter''' (10 May 1914 – 14 September 2003) was a German [track and field](/source/track_and_field) athlete who competed in the [pole vault](/source/pole_vault).

Born in [Basel](/source/Basel), Switzerland, he was a member of [FC Freiburg](/source/FC_Freiburg) sports club and chose to compete internationally for Germany.<ref name=DE>Klaus Amrhein in DGLD-Bulletin Nr. 57/2010, Seite 285.</ref> His first success at national level came in 1937, when he was runner-up at the [German Athletics Championships](/source/German_Athletics_Championships) to [Julius Müller](/source/Julius_M%C3%BCller_(pole_vaulter)). In spite of his failure to claim a national title in his career, he was the winner at the [1938 European Athletics Championships](/source/1938_European_Athletics_Championships). Following in the footsteps of his compatriot [Gustav Wegner](/source/Gustav_Wegner) (the 1934 winner), he defeated [Bo Ljungberg](/source/Bo_Ljungberg) and won in a [championship record](/source/List_of_European_Athletics_Championships_records) mark of {{T&Fcalc|4.05}}.<ref>[http://www.gbrathletics.com/ic/ec.htm European Championships (Men)].
