'''Ferdinand Karl Franz Schaum''' (14 July 1870, [Frankfurt am Main](/source/Frankfurt_am_Main) – 30 January 1947, [Gießen](/source/Gie%C3%9Fen)) was a German [chemist](/source/chemist) who specialized in the field of [photochemistry](/source/photochemistry).

He studied mathematics and sciences at the Universities of [Basel](/source/University_of_Basel), [Berlin](/source/University_of_Berlin), [Leipzig](/source/University_of_Leipzig) and [Marburg](/source/University_of_Marburg), earning his doctorate at the latter institution in 1893. Afterwards, he served as an assistant to [Theodor Zincke](/source/Theodor_Zincke) at Marburg and to [Wilhelm Ostwald](/source/Wilhelm_Ostwald) in Leipzig. Schaum was a member of the ''Gesellschaft zur Beförderung der gesamten Naturwissenschaften Marburg''.<ref name=LE/>
