Karl Mathie was a clergyman, educator, and the first president of Wausau Sulphate Fiber Co. (later [Wausau Paper](/source/Wausau_Paper)),<ref>{{cite web|title=The Mosinee Mill Centenary|url=http://www.mosineechamber.org/assets/MosineeMillAnniversaryPaper.pdf|publisher=Wausau Paper|accessdate=2014-08-24}}{{Dead link|date=August 2025 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }}</ref> which revived Mosinee's economy after Dessert's sawmill closed.
