**Karahrud** ([Persian](/source/Persian_language): كرهرود)[a] is a neighborhood in the city of [Arak](/source/Arak%2C_Iran) in the [Central District](/source/Central_District_(Arak_County)) of [Arak County](/source/Arak_County), [Markazi](/source/Markazi_province) province, Iran.

## Demographics

### Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, Karahrud's population was 23,399 in 6,209 households, when it was a city in the Central District.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 29,721 people in 8,782 households.[2]

In 2013, Karahrud and the city of [Senjan](/source/Senjan) were merged with the city of [Arak](/source/Arak%2C_Iran).[5]

## Notable people

Karahrud is the birthplace of [Kurdish](/source/Kurds) historian and prince of [Bidlîs](/source/Bitlis), [Sharaf Khan Bidlisi](/source/Sharaf_Khan_Bidlisi) (1543-ca. 1603).[6]
