In the 1970s, Vallow lived in [Miquon, Pennsylvania](/source/Miquon%2C_Pennsylvania). Vallow worked at the [New York City](/source/New_York_City)-based studio [Broadcast Arts](/source/Curious_Pictures), best known for set design for ''[Pee-wee's Playhouse](/source/Pee-wee's_Playhouse)''. She eventually moved to [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles) to work at [Hyperion Pictures](/source/Hyperion_Pictures) as the supervisor of the production layout department on the feature ''[Bebe's Kids](/source/Bebe's_Kids)'', a multi-cultural animated feature film.{{citation needed|date=October 2015}}

Over the next few years, Vallow moved to [Murakami-Wolf](/source/Fred_Wolf_Films) as producer of ''[Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles](/source/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_(1987_TV_series))'' TV series during its waning years. She worked at [Hanna-Barbera](/source/Hanna-Barbera), where she produced the series ''[Johnny Bravo](/source/Johnny_Bravo)'', and where she met Seth MacFarlane.<ref name="Sanderson2018" />

Vallow then went on to [Sony](/source/Sony_Pictures_Television) to produce its first primetime series, ''[Dilbert](/source/Dilbert_(TV_series))'', with [Larry Charles](/source/Larry_Charles), which ran on [UPN](/source/UPN) for two seasons. She then took over as producer for [season three](/source/Family_Guy_(season_3)) of ''[Family Guy](/source/Family_Guy)'' before its brief cancellation. In 2004, Vallow created and produced the animation sequences in the critically acclaimed and award-winning documentary ''[In the Realms of the Unreal](/source/In_the_Realms_of_the_Unreal)'' directed by [Jessica Yu](/source/Jessica_Yu). She produced the MTV series ''[3-South](/source/3-South)'', the pilot for [Comedy Central](/source/Comedy_Central)’s ''[Drawn Together](/source/Drawn_Together)'' and the presentations for Fox's ''[American Dad!](/source/American_Dad!)'' and an untitled [Phil Hendrie](/source/Phil_Hendrie) pilot, before Fox made the decision to bring back ''Family Guy'' for an unprecedented 35 episode order.
