# Kalu Khan

**Kalu Khan** is a village located between Shawwa-Adda and Adina village on the main Mardan–Swabi road in [Khyber–Pakhtunkhwa](/source/Khyber%E2%80%93Pakhtunkhwa) province of [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan).[1][2]

The people of the area belong to the [Mandanr](/source/Mandanr)-[Yousafzai](/source/Yusufzai) (Isapzai in [Pashto](/source/Pashto)) branch of [Afghans](/source/Pashtuns) through mythical confederation patriarch *Mand* and his sons. The village is [eponymous](/source/Eponym) to the [16th century](/source/16th_century) ruling chief of the region, [Kalu Khan Yousafzai](/source/Kalu_Khan_Yousafzai), an Afghan warrior who annihilated 8,000-50,000 troops of [Emperor Akbar](/source/Akbar) at the [Karakar Pass](/source/Karakar_Pass) in [1586](/source/Battle_of_the_Malandari_Pass_(1586)) during the [Afghan-Mughal wars](/source/Mughal%E2%80%93Afghan_Wars), one of the greatest Mughal defeats in history.[3][4][5][6][7]

Kalu Khan was upgraded to the status of Tehsil Headquarters of District Swabi during the ANP (Awami National Party/ملي اولسي ګوند) government term in the province between 2008 and 2013.[citation needed]

It is located at 34°13'0N 72°18'0E with an altitude of 317 meters (1043 feet).[8]
