Find sources: "Kaleet River" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR (February 2024) (Learn how and when to remove this message) The **Kaleet River** is one of the lakes in Canada.[1] It effectively starts north of Lower Macdougall Lake in the [Kitikmeot Region](/source/Kitikmeot_Region%2C_Nunavut), [Nunavut](/source/Nunavut), Canada just east of Joe Lake, [66°16′31″N 098°20′13″W / 66.27528°N 98.33694°W / 66.27528; -98.33694 (Joe Lake (Kaleet River))](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Kaleet_River¶ms=66_16_31_N_098_20_13_W_type:waterbody_region:CA-NU&title=Joe+Lake+%28Kaleet+River%29). It is a small, silty river constituting the eastern boundary of the [Queen Maud Gulf Bird Sanctuary](/source/Queen_Maud_Gulf_Bird_Sanctuary). It is a main feeder river to [Sherman Basin](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sherman_Basin&action=edit&redlink=1), [67°46′59″N 097°34′59″W / 67.78306°N 97.58306°W / 67.78306; -97.58306 (Sherman Basin (Kaleet River))](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Kaleet_River¶ms=67_46_59_N_097_34_59_W_type:waterbody_scale:500000_region:CA-NU&title=Sherman+Basin+%28Kaleet+River%29), at its final outlet. There is evidence of earlier [Inuit](/source/Inuit) presence in the form of *[inuksuit](/source/Inukshuk)*. There is also evidence of a more modern presence in the form of cairns.
