{{Short description|South Slavic word game}}
{{for|the toothpaste|Kalodont}}
'''Kalodont''' or '''kaladont''' is a [South Slavic](/source/South_Slavs) [word game](/source/word_game), popular in [Croatia](/source/Croatia), [Montenegro](/source/Montenegro), [Serbia](/source/Serbia), [Slovenia](/source/Slovenia), [Bosnia and Herzegovina](/source/Bosnia_and_Herzegovina) and [North Macedonia](/source/North_Macedonia), in which players in turn say words, each beginning with the last two letters of the previous word.<ref name=narod.hr>{{cite web|last1=Josipović|first1=Ivana|title=Gdje su nestale igre našeg djetinjstva?|url=https://narod.hr/clanak/gdje-su-nestale-igre-naseg-djetinjstva|website=Narod.hr|accessdate=25 May 2017|location=Zagreb|language=hr-HR|date=10 July 2015}}</ref>

The game is usually played by different [house rules](/source/house_rules); the game either ends when ''kalodont'' is used, with the person saying it being the winner or ''kalodont'' being the only repeatable word that can be used to eliminate the previous player. Other than ''kalodont'', used words cannot be repeated and the goal of the game is to force other players to use words ending in ''ka''.

The name of the game originates from once popular Austrian [Kalodont](/source/Kalodont) [toothpaste](/source/toothpaste) brand that became synonymous with toothpaste in the region of [former Yugoslavia](/source/former_Yugoslavia) and a common word for it. It is the winning word since there are no words in South Slavic languages that begin with ''nt''.

== Rules ==
One of the players starts by saying a word. Then, each following player in sequence (usually clockwise or counterclockwise) must come up with a word beginning with the last two letters of the previous word. The word must have at least four letters, must be in its standard form (''i.e.'' [infinitive](/source/infinitive) for verbs, [nominative](/source/nominative) for nouns, etc.) may not be made-up or a [proper name](/source/proper_name), and no previous word may be repeated. When one of the players cannot come up with an acceptable word, he loses the game.<ref name=narod.hr/><ref name=ezadar>{{cite web|title=Ne zaboravimo stare igre za djecu!|url=http://www.ezadar.rtl.hr/lifestyle/2097855/ne-zaboravimo-stare-igre-za-djecu/|website=[RTL.hr](/source/RTL_Televizija)|accessdate=25 May 2017|language=hr|date=14 May 2015}}</ref> The winner is the player who posed the word with the difficult ending; he gets to start the next round.<ref name="odmorsadecom">{{cite web|title=Igre iz detinjstva|url=http://www.odmorsadecom.com/igre-iz-detinjstva/|website=Odmor sa decom|accessdate=25 May 2017|language=sr-RS|date=4 September 2015|archive-date=7 November 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221107184021/https://www.odmorsadecom.com/igre-iz-detinjstva/|url-status=dead}}</ref> If a player says a word ending with ''-ka'', the first player to say ''kaladont'' is the winner.<ref name=narod.hr/>
