# Kaisma

**Kaisma** is a village in [Põhja-Pärnumaa Parish](/source/P%C3%B5hja-P%C3%A4rnumaa_Parish), [Pärnu County](/source/P%C3%A4rnu_County), [Estonia](/source/Estonia).[2] It is located about 11 km (7 mi) north of [Tootsi](/source/Tootsi), 12 km (7 mi) south of [Järvakandi](/source/J%C3%A4rvakandi), 15 km (9 mi) west of [Vändra](/source/V%C3%A4ndra) and 19 km (12 mi) east of [Pärnu-Jaagupi](/source/P%C3%A4rnu-Jaagupi) boroughs. Kaisma has conglutinated with the neighbouring [Kergu](/source/Kergu) village. The nearest railway stations are in [Kõnnu](/source/K%C3%B5nnu,_P%C3%A4rnu_County) (6 km (4 mi)) and [Viluvere](/source/Viluvere) (7 km (4 mi)).

As of the [2011 Census](/source/2011_Estonia_Census), the settlement's population was 116.[1]

Kaisma was first mentioned as *Caysma* in 1530. Kaisma Manor had existed already in 1601. The main building and distillery were destroyed during the [Revolution of 1905](/source/Revolution_of_1905#Estonia). Geologist and botanist [Carl Friedrich Schmidt](/source/Carl_Friedrich_Schmidt_(1832)) (1832–1908) was born in the manor.[3]

Between 1991 and 2009, Kaisma was the administrative centre of [Kaisma Parish](/source/Kaisma_Parish), before it was merged into [Vändra Parish](/source/V%C3%A4ndra_Parish). In 2017, Vändra Parish was merged into newly established [Põhja-Pärnumaa Parish](/source/P%C3%B5hja-P%C3%A4rnumaa_Parish).
