# Juul Ellerman

**Juul Ellerman** (born 7 October 1965) is a Dutch former professional [footballer](/source/Association_football),[1] who played as a [winger](/source/Winger_(association_football))[2] or as a [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)).[3]

## Club career

Ellerman started his professional career at [Sparta](/source/Sparta_Rotterdam) and moved to [PSV](/source/PSV_Eindhoven) in 1988. He scored twice in a famous 1989 5–1 [Champions' Cup](/source/1989%E2%80%9390_European_Cup) win over previous year's finalists [Steaua Bucharest](/source/FC_Steaua_Bucure%C8%99ti) with [Romário](/source/Rom%C3%A1rio) scoring a hattrick[4] and he scored the first ever [hat-trick](/source/List_of_UEFA_Champions_League_hat-tricks) in the [UEFA Champions League](/source/UEFA_Champions_League) on 16 September 1992 for [PSV Eindhoven](/source/PSV_Eindhoven) against [Žalgiris Vilnius](/source/VMFD_%C5%BDalgiris_Vilnius) in a 6–0 win.[5] In 1994, Ellerman was deemed surplus to requirements and left PSV for [FC Twente](/source/FC_Twente) to replace [Boudewijn Pahlplatz](/source/Boudewijn_Pahlplatz) who moved the opposite way.[6] He suffered from a serious knee injury and joined [NEC](/source/N.E.C._(football_club)) in 1997 after Twente manager [Hans Meyer](/source/Hans_Meyer_(footballer)) said he did not need Ellerman's services anymore.[7]

He retired in 2002 while playing for [Helmond Sport](/source/Helmond_Sport).[citation needed]

## International career

He was capped for the national under-21 team[8] and made his senior debut for the [Netherlands national team](/source/Netherlands_national_football_team) in a January 1989 [friendly match](/source/Friendly_match) against [Israel](/source/Israel_national_football_team). He earned a total of 5 caps, scoring no goals. His final international was a September 1991 friendly against [Poland](/source/Poland_national_football_team).[9]
