Kaye began playing baseball at the suggestion of a family friend upon moving from [Ft. Lauderdale, Florida](/source/Ft._Lauderdale%2C_Florida) to [Las Vegas, Nevada](/source/Las_Vegas%2C_Nevada) at twelve years old. Even so, he chose to play [football](/source/high_school_football) instead of baseball as a freshman at [Bishop Gorman High School](/source/Bishop_Gorman_High_School).
