**Justin Fenton** is an American author, journalist and crime reporter. He is currently an investigative reporter for the *[Baltimore Banner](/source/Baltimore_Banner)*.

## Career

A 2005 graduate of the [University of Maryland, College Park](/source/University_of_Maryland%2C_College_Park), Fenton worked as a reporter and editor for the student newspaper, *[The Diamondback](/source/The_Diamondback)*. He interned at *[The Baltimore Sun](/source/The_Baltimore_Sun)* and went on to become a reporter at the newspaper for 17 years. Fenton is a two-time finalist for the national [Livingston Award for Young Journalists](/source/Livingston_Award_for_Young_Journalists).[1] *[The Daily Record](/source/Daily_Record_(Maryland))* named Fenton as an "Influential Marylander" in 2018.[1]

In 2010, Fenton's reporting sparked reforms in how the [Baltimore Police Department](/source/Baltimore_Police_Department) investigated sexual assaults. Fenton was part of the [Pulitzer Prize](/source/Pulitzer_Prize)-finalist staff recognized for their coverage of the [Baltimore riots](/source/2015_Baltimore_protests) that followed the [killing of Freddie Gray](/source/Killing_of_Freddie_Gray).[1] He was also one of the lead reporters on [Baltimore's Gun Trace Task Force scandal](/source/Gun_Trace_Task_Force),[2] and later wrote a book based on the case, titled *We Own This City*, which was later produced by [HBO](/source/HBO) into a [TV mini series of the same name](/source/We_Own_This_City).[3][4]

In 2022, Fenton left the *Sun* to join the upstart *[Baltimore Banner](/source/The_Baltimore_Banner)*,[5] where he currently works as an investigative reporter.[6] He contributed to the *Banner'*s reporting on sexual misconduct allegations against [Baltimore Ravens](/source/Baltimore_Ravens) kicker [Justin Tucker](/source/Justin_Tucker), leading to Tucker's release from the Ravens and a 10-week suspension from the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League).[7][8]
