Castro was born to a Filipina mother from [Cebu](/source/Cebu) and an [American](/source/American_(people)) father. She studied at [St. Paul College](/source/St._Paul_University_Manila) in Manila, where she was mentored by [James B. Reuter](/source/James_B._Reuter). She married broadcaster [Angelo Castro Jr.](/source/Angelo_Castro_Jr.) in 1973 and the couple had three children: Diego, an actor and anchor of [UNTV](/source/DWAO-TV),<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.untvweb.com/hosts/diego-castro-iii|title=Diego Castro III profile|publisher=Untvweb|access-date=November 26, 2013}}</ref> Gabriella, and Angelica.

===Acting career===
Prior to becoming a journalist, Castro had a television and film career. She was part of the cast in the defunct [ABS-CBN](/source/ABS-CBN) comedy-gag show ''[Super Laff-In](/source/Super_Laff-In)'' from 1969 until 1972. During the [People Power Revolution](/source/People_Power_Revolution) in late February 1986, Keithley continued her broadcasts at the radio station booth of [DZRJ-AM](/source/DZRJ-AM) in [Santa Mesa, Manila](/source/Santa_Mesa) where she, along with Father [James Reuter](/source/James_Reuter), Felino Interia, and Charlie Frejas, set up ''Radyo Bandido'', which was an alternative source for news on the uprising after government troops destroyed the transmitter of [Church](/source/Catholic_Church)-owned [Radio Veritas](/source/Radio_Veritas) on 23 February. As soldiers failed to discover their whereabouts despite proximity to Malacañang Palace, Radyo Bandido helped sustain momentum for the revolt that ultimately toppled the dictatorship of [President](/source/President_of_the_Philippines) [Ferdinand Marcos](/source/Ferdinand_Marcos) on 25 February.{{citation needed|date=August 2015}}

==Illness and death==
