## Club career

### Early years and Nancy

A [central defender](/source/Central_defender), Jeanvier began his career in 2000 with hometown club US Clichy-sur-Seine.[3] He moved to [L'Entente SSG](/source/L'Entente_SSG) in 2006 and trained concurrently at [Clairefontaine](/source/INF_Clairefontaine),[4] before joining the [academy](/source/Football_academy) at [Nancy](/source/AS_Nancy) in 2008.[3] Jeanvier progressed into the [reserve team](/source/Reserve_team) and made 54 appearances and scored two goals in the [Championnat de France Amateur](/source/Championnat_de_France_Amateur) between 2009 and 2013.[5][6] The appointment of former head of youth [Patrick Gabriel](/source/Patrick_Gabriel) as first team manager midway through the [2012–13](/source/2012%E2%80%9313_Ligue_1) [Ligue 1](/source/Ligue_1) season saw Jeanvier promoted into the first team squad and he made 10 appearances between January and April 2013.[5][7] He refused the offer of a new two-year contract extension and departed the [Stade Marcel Picot](/source/Stade_Marcel_Picot) at the end of the 2012–13 season.[7]

### Lille

Jeanvier joined Ligue 1 club [Lille](/source/Lille_OSC) on a four-year contract during the 2013 off-season.[7] Behind [Simon Kjær](/source/Simon_Kj%C3%A6r), [Marko Baša](/source/Marko_Ba%C5%A1a), [David Rozehnal](/source/David_Rozehnal) and [Adama Soumaoro](/source/Adama_Soumaoro) in the central defensive pecking order,[7] he was completely out of favour with manager [René Girard](/source/Ren%C3%A9_Girard_(footballer)),[5] who had replaced [Rudi Garcia](/source/Rudi_Garcia) soon after Jeanvier's arrival at the [Stade Pierre-Mauroy](/source/Stade_Pierre-Mauroy).[8] He instead played for the reserve team and spent the [2014–15](/source/2014%E2%80%9315_Belgian_Pro_League) and [2015–16](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_Ligue_2) seasons on [loan](/source/Loan_(sports)) at [Mouscron-Péruwelz](/source/Mouscron_p%C3%A9ruwelz) and [Red Star](/source/Red_Star_F.C.) respectively.[5][9] He failed to make a first team appearance and left the club in August 2016.[5][10]

### Reims

In August 2016, Jeanvier dropped into [Ligue 2](/source/Ligue_2) to join [Reims](/source/Stade_de_Reims).[10] He established himself in the [starting lineup](/source/Starting_lineup) and was voted into the [UNFP Ligue 2 Team of the Year](/source/Troph%C3%A9es_UNFP_du_football) at the end of the [2016–17](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Ligue_2) and [2017–18](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_Ligue_2) seasons.[11] Jeanvier had a successful 2017–18 season, vice-[captaining](/source/Captain_(association_football)) the team and helping the club to the Ligue 2 championship and promotion to Ligue 1.[12][13] He departed the [Stade Auguste-Delaune](/source/Stade_Auguste-Delaune) in July 2018,[12] after making 67 appearances and scoring five goals for the club.[5]

### Brentford

#### 2018–19 season

On 30 July 2018, Jeanvier moved to [England](/source/Football_in_England) to join [Championship](/source/EFL_Championship) club Brentford on a four-year contract, with the option of a further year, for an undisclosed fee,[14] speculated to be £1.8 million.[15] He scored a goal in each of his first two appearances for the club, which came in the early rounds of the [EFL Cup](/source/EFL_Cup),[16] but a foot injury suffered in October 2018 ruled him out for two months.[17][18] The unavailability of [Chris Mepham](/source/Chris_Mepham) and new head coach [Thomas Frank](/source/Thomas_Frank_(football_manager))'s deployment of three centre backs saw Jeanvier win a starting place on his return to fitness in December 2018 and he remained a near-constant starter until the end of the [2018–19](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_Brentford_F.C._season) season.[5][19][20]

#### 2019–2021 and loan to Kasımpaşa

Despite being behind [Pontus Jansson](/source/Pontus_Jansson) and [Ethan Pinnock](/source/Ethan_Pinnock) in the pecking order when either was available,[21] Jeanvier made 27 appearances and scored one goal during the [2019–20](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Brentford_F.C._season) season,[22] but he did not feature during the Bees' unsuccessful [playoff](/source/2020_English_Football_League_play-offs#Championship) campaign.[23]

After the signing of [Charlie Goode](/source/Charlie_Goode) during the 2020 off-season saw Jeanvier demoted further down the pecking order, he joined [Turkish](/source/Football_in_Turkey) [Süper Lig](/source/S%C3%BCper_Lig) club [Kasımpaşa](/source/Kas%C4%B1mpa%C5%9Fa_S.K.) on loan for the duration of the [2020–21](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_S%C3%BCper_Lig) season.[24] In late October 2020, after making four appearances,[5] he suffered a season-ending ruptured [anterior cruciate ligament injury](/source/Anterior_cruciate_ligament_injury).[25] In his absence,[25] Brentford won promotion to the [Premier League](/source/Premier_League) after victory in the [2021 Championship playoff Final](/source/2021_EFL_Championship_play-off_final).[26]

#### 2021–22 season

Jeanvier was included in Brentford's 25-man Premier League squad for the [2021–22](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_Brentford_F.C._season) season and by mid-November 2021,[27][28] he had returned to non-contact training.[29] He made his return to non-competitive match play with [Brentford B](/source/Brentford_F.C._Reserves_and_Academy#Relaunch_(2016–present)) in late March 2022.[30][31] On 10 April 2022, illness suffered by Pontus Jansson saw Jeanvier named in a matchday squad for the first time since the [2020 Championship play-off final](/source/2020_EFL_Championship_play-off_final) and he remained an unused substitute during a 2–0 Premier League victory over [West Ham United](/source/West_Ham_United_F.C.).[5][32] He was an unused substitute during five further matches before the end of the Premier League season and was released when his contract expired.[5][33] During four seasons with Brentford, Jeanvier made 58 appearances and scored six goals.[34]

### Auxerre

In July 2022, Jeanvier joined Championship club [Reading](/source/Reading_F.C.) on trial and took part in the club's [St George's Park](/source/St_George's_Park_National_Football_Centre) [training camp](/source/Training_camp),[35] but was not offered a contract.[36] On 18 July 2022, he joined newly-promoted Ligue 1 club [Auxerre](/source/AJ_Auxerre) on a two-week trial and signed a one-year contract, with a one-year option, on 2 August 2022.[37] Jeanvier made 24 appearances and scored one goal during a [2022–23](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_AJ_Auxerre_season) season in which the club suffered relegation back to Ligue 2.[5][38] He was released when the club declined to take up the option on his contract.[39]

### Kayserispor

On 16 September 2023, Jeanvier returned to Turkey to sign a two-year contract with Süper Lig club [Kayserispor](/source/Kayserispor) on a [free transfer](/source/Free_transfer_(association_football)).[40] He made 14 appearances and scored one goal during a [2023–24](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_S%C3%BCper_Lig) season in which the club narrowly avoided relegation.[5][41] Either side of three months out with a [medial collateral ligament](/source/Medial_collateral_ligament) problem in his left knee,[42] Jeanvier made 14 appearances during the [2024–25](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_S%C3%BCper_Lig) season and was released when his contract expired.[5][43] As a result of a delayed payment of €135,000 to Jeanvier, the club was subsequently banned from participating in three [transfer windows](/source/Transfer_window).[44]

### Gulf United

In late September 2025, Jeanvier signed a contract with [UAE First Division League](/source/UAE_First_Division_League) club [Gulf United](/source/Gulf_United_FC) on a free transfer.[45]

## International career

Jeanvier was a member of the [France U18](/source/France_national_under-18_football_team) squad which finished runners-up at the 2010 Copa del Atlántico, but he failed to win a cap.[3][46] He made his debut for [Guinea](/source/Guinea_national_football_team) in a 1–0 [friendly](/source/Friendly_match) defeat to [Gambia](/source/Gambia_national_football_team) on 7 June 2019 and made one appearance at the [2019 Africa Cup of Nations](/source/2019_Africa_Cup_of_Nations).[47] Following 2+1⁄2 years out of international contention, Jeanvier was recalled to the squad for two [2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers](/source/2023_Africa_Cup_of_Nations_qualification_Group_D) in June 2022.[48] He remained an unused substitute during the first match, before departing the squad for personal reasons.[49] Four years after his previous cap, Jeanvier was recalled to the Guinea squad for two [2026 World Cup qualifiers](/source/2026_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_CAF_Group_G) in November 2023, both of which he started in.[47] Jeanvier was named in Guinea's [2023 Africa Cup of Nations](/source/2023_Africa_Cup_of_Nations) squad and made four appearances during the team's run to the quarter-finals.[47][50][51]

## Personal life

Jeanvier was born in metropolitan France and is of Guinean and Guadeloupean descent.[52] His father was also a footballer and played for Red Star.[7] He is married to a Guinean woman and has a Guinean passport.[53]
