**Julia Lester** (born January 28, 2000[1]) is an American actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Ashlyn Caswell in the [Disney+](/source/Disney%2B) series *[High School Musical: The Musical: The Series](/source/High_School_Musical:_The_Musical:_The_Series)* and for her portrayal of the role of [Little Red Ridinghood](/source/Little_Red_Ridinghood) in the 2022 Broadway revival of *[Into the Woods](/source/Into_the_Woods)*, for which she was nominated for the [Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical](/source/Tony_Award_for_Best_Featured_Actress_in_a_Musical).

## Early life and education

Lester is from [Woodland Hills](/source/Woodland_Hills,_Los_Angeles), CA.[2] She is Jewish.[3] She is the youngest daughter of actors Kelly and [Loren Lester](/source/Loren_Lester), granddaughter of actors Helen and [Peter Mark Richman](/source/Peter_Mark_Richman), and niece of conductor/composer [Lucas Richman](/source/Lucas_Richman).[4]

She attended [Calabasas High School](/source/Calabasas_High_School).[5]

## Personal life

Lester is [queer](/source/Queer)[6] and has been dating screenwriter [Ilana Wolpert](/source/Ilana_Wolpert) since 2022.[7]

Her character on *High School Musical: The Musical: The Series* also came out as queer in the third season.[6]
