She joined the [Diplomatic Service](/source/Her_Majesty's_Diplomatic_Service) in 1976 and served at [Belgrade](/source/Belgrade), [Prague](/source/Prague) and [Paris](/source/Paris), besides posts at the [Foreign and Commonwealth Office](/source/Foreign_and_Commonwealth_Office) (FCO), before being appointed ambassador to [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia) 2004–07.
