# Judith Fergin

**Judith Ryan Fergin** (born 1951) is an American diplomat who was the [United States ambassador](/source/United_States_Ambassador_to_East_Timor) to [East Timor](/source/East_Timor).[1] Her term of appointment began on September 9, 2010, succeeding [Hans G. Klemm](/source/Hans_G._Klemm), and ended in 2013.

## Biography

Fergin received a [B.A.](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree from [Smith College](/source/Smith_College) and [M.A.](/source/Master_of_Arts) degrees from the [University of Virginia](/source/University_of_Virginia) and the [Industrial College of the Armed Forces](/source/Industrial_College_of_the_Armed_Forces) of the [National Defense University](/source/National_Defense_University_(Washington,_D.C.)).

She is a career member of the [Senior Foreign Service](/source/Senior_Foreign_Service). She was previously Deputy Chief of Mission in [Embassy Singapore](/source/Embassy_of_the_United_States,_Singapore) and Consul General in [Sydney, Australia](/source/Sydney,_Australia). She has also served as Economic Counselor at the [U.S. Embassy in Canberra](/source/Embassy_of_the_United_States,_Canberra) and the [U.S. Embassy in Jakarta](/source/United_States_Ambassador_to_Indonesia), as well as in overseas posts in [Russia](/source/Russia), [Liberia](/source/Liberia), [South Africa](/source/South_Africa), and [Germany](/source/Germany).[2]
