# Joshua Chadbourne

**Joshua Francis Chadbourne** (April 30, 1873 – December 5, 1959) was born in [Centerville](/source/Fremont,_California#Centerville_District) ([Alameda County](/source/Alameda_County,_California)), California and died in [Fremont, California](/source/Fremont,_California). He was a businessman who opened the first auto mechanic shop between [Hayward, California](/source/Hayward,_California) and [San Jose, California](/source/San_Jose,_California) in [Irvington](/source/Fremont,_California#Irvington_District), California.[1][2] He also owned a large apricot orchard in Irvington.[2] [Chadbourne Elementary School](/source/Chadbourne_Elementary_School) (an elementary school in the [Fremont Unified School District](/source/Fremont_Unified_School_District)) was named after him, as the benefactor of the land for the school.[2]
