**Josh Oppenheimer** ([Hebrew](/source/Hebrew_language): ג'וש אופנהיימר; born January 15, 1969) is an American-Israeli professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) coach and former player. He was most recently an assistant coach for the [Milwaukee Bucks](/source/Milwaukee_Bucks) of the [National Basketball Association](/source/National_Basketball_Association) (NBA), and the Greek Basketball National team.

## Playing career

Oppenheimer played collegiately for [Rhode Island](/source/Rhode_Island_Rams_men's_basketball) and later [Northern Arizona](/source/Northern_Arizona_Lumberjacks_men's_basketball) before embarking on a professional career in the United States and Europe. He spent two summers in the [United States Basketball League](/source/United_States_Basketball_League) playing for Atlanta, Philadelphia and Palm Beach and also logged a season in the [Continental Basketball Association](/source/Continental_Basketball_Association) with Cedar Rapids. He also played the [NBA Summer League](/source/NBA_Summer_League) and attended training camp with the [Atlanta Hawks](/source/Atlanta_Hawks), the [Los Angeles Clippers](/source/Los_Angeles_Clippers) and the [Sacramento Kings](/source/Sacramento_Kings) respectively. Oppenheimer spent six seasons in the [Israeli Basketball Premier League](/source/Israeli_Basketball_Premier_League).

## Coaching career

Oppenheimer has coaching experience in the college ranks from [Duquesne](/source/Duquesne_Dukes_men's_basketball), [Delaware](/source/Delaware_Fightin'_Blue_Hens_men's_basketball), [DePaul](/source/DePaul_Blue_Demons_men's_basketball) and [Kent State](/source/Kent_State_Golden_Flashes_men's_basketball).

### NBA

In 2013, Oppenheimer joined the [Milwaukee Bucks](/source/Milwaukee_Bucks) coaching staff of head coach [Larry Drew](/source/Larry_Drew).[1] At the start of the [2016–17 NBA season](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_NBA_season), the [Houston Rockets](/source/Houston_Rockets) added Oppenheimer to their coaching staff as an assistant coach.[2]

At the start of the [2017–18 NBA G League season](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_NBA_G_League_season), the [Brooklyn Nets](/source/Brooklyn_Nets) added Oppenheimer to the [Long Island Nets](/source/Long_Island_Nets) coaching staff as an assistant coach.[3]

On August 15, 2019, it was announced that added Oppenheimer to the [James Madison](/source/James_Madison_Dukes_men's_basketball) coaching staff as an assistant coach.[4]

On November 17, 2020, the Milwaukee Bucks announced that Oppenheimer has returned to the team as an assistant coach.[5] Oppenheimer became an NBA champion when the Bucks defeated the [Phoenix Suns](/source/Phoenix_Suns) in 6 games of the [2021 NBA Finals](/source/2021_NBA_Finals).

## Personal life

Oppenheimer and his wife Adrienne, a former college volleyball player from [Puerto Rico](/source/Puerto_Rico), have two daughters, Gabriella "Gabbi", who works in finance, and Nicolette "Nikki",[6] who played basketball for [James Madison University](/source/James_Madison_Dukes), having previously played for [Syracuse University](/source/Syracuse_Orange) and [Montini Catholic High School](/source/Montini_Catholic_High_School).[7] Nicolette represented the [Puerto Rico women's national under-18 team](/source/Puerto_Rico_women's_national_under-19_basketball_team) at the [2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship for Women](/source/2016_FIBA_Americas_Under-18_Championship_for_Women).[8]
