# Josh Keyser

**Josh Keyser** (born 1986-1987) is an American politician and businessman who is currently serving as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) member of the [Idaho Senate](/source/Idaho_Senate), representing the 20th district.[1] He was first elected in 2024, defeating Republican incumbent and former Senate Leader [Chuck Winder](/source/Chuck_Winder) with 52% of the vote in the Republican primary.[2]

## Personal life and career

Keyser formerly served as a [Marine](/source/United_States_Marine_Corps) and trained for the [Boise Police Department](/source/Boise_Police_Department).[3][4] He graduated with a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree in Business from [Vanguard University](/source/Vanguard_University).[5] He moved to [Meridian](/source/Meridian,_Idaho) from [California](/source/California) in 2018.[6][7]

## Political views

### Homelessness

Keyser was a co-sponsor of two bills in March 2025 which banned [homeless encampments](/source/Homeless_encampments), such as tents, from being placed on [public property](/source/Public_property), including cars and sidewalks.[8]

### Welfare

Keyser co-sponsored House Bill 199 in March 2025, which lowers the cap of maximum income for [refugees](/source/Refugee) in Idaho for federal medical aid.[9]
