# Josh Boileau

**Josh Boileau** (born 2 July 1995) is an Irish former professional [snooker](/source/Snooker) player. He is the 2016 [Under-21 European Snooker Champion](/source/EBSA_European_Under-21_Snooker_Championships).

## Career

In 2014, Boileau entered the [EBSA European Under-21 Snooker Championships](/source/2014_EBSA_European_Under-21_Snooker_Championships) in [Bucharest](/source/Bucharest) where he reached the final, before he lost 6–1 [Oliver Lines](/source/Oliver_Lines). Two years following his disappointment in Bucharest, Boileau once again made it to the final where he defeated [Brandon Sargeant](/source/Brandon_Sargeant) 6–1 to win the [2016 EBSA European Under-21 Snooker Championship](/source/2016_EBSA_European_Under-21_Snooker_Championship), and as a result, he was given a two-year card on the professional [World Snooker Tour](/source/World_Snooker_Tour) for the [2016–17](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_snooker_season) and [2017–18](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_snooker_season) seasons.[2][3] His first win at the venue stage of a ranking event was at the [Northern Ireland Open](/source/2016_Northern_Ireland_Open) when he edged past [Mike Dunn](/source/Mike_Dunn_(snooker_player)) 4–3. Boileau then saw off [Hamza Akbar](/source/Hamza_Akbar) 4–2, before losing 4–1 to [Kurt Maflin](/source/Kurt_Maflin). He overcame [Hammad Miah](/source/Hammad_Miah) 4–1 at the [Welsh Open](/source/2017_Welsh_Open_(snooker)) to set up a second round meeting with [Shaun Murphy](/source/Shaun_Murphy), who Boileau said inspired him to start playing snooker after he watched him win the World Championship in 2005. Boileau beat the world number six 4–2, but then lost 4–0 to [Robert Milkins](/source/Robert_Milkins).[4][5]
