# Joseph Leycester

**Joseph Leycester** (1784 – 27 August 1859) was an Irish politician.

Leycester lived in [Cork](/source/Cork_(city)), where he was the agent for the [Bank of Ireland](/source/Bank_of_Ireland). He served as [Sheriff of Cork City](/source/Sheriff_of_Cork_City) in 1807, and as [Lord Mayor of Cork](/source/Lord_Mayor_of_Cork) in 1833. During the [1835 UK general election](/source/1835_UK_general_election), he ran for a seat in [Cork City](/source/Cork_City_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) as a member of the [Conservative Party](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK)) and won. However, he was unseated following a petition on 18 April that year. He ran again in Cork City during the [1837 UK general election](/source/1837_UK_general_election) but was not elected.[1][2]
