==Life==
Bergler was born in [Salzburg](/source/Salzburg), the son of sculptor [Joseph Bergler the Elder](/source/Joseph_Bergler_the_Elder) (1718–1788) who instructed his son. He also became acquainted with Maron's brother-in-law, [Anton Raphael Mengs](/source/Anton_Raphael_Mengs), as well as [Gavin Hamilton](/source/Gavin_Hamilton_(artist)) and [Giovanni Volpato](/source/Giovanni_Volpato). In 1786, he returned to live with his parents in [Passau](/source/Passau). In 1800, he moved to [Prague](/source/Prague) in [Bohemia](/source/Bohemia),<ref>{{cite book|url=http://www.biographien.ac.at/oebl_1/73.pdf|title=Österreichisches Biographisches Lexikon 1815–1950}}</ref> where he helped to found the [Academy of Fine Arts](/source/Academy_of_Fine_Arts%2C_Prague) at the [Clementinum](/source/Clementinum), and became its first director. The sculptor Wenzel Prahner became a close friend.

During his sojourn in Rome he made a particular study of the works of [Raphael](/source/Raphael). He was patronized by [Count Thun](/source/Thun_und_Hohenstein_family) and became chamber painter to [Cardinal Auersperg](/source/Joseph_Franz_Auersperg), [prince bishop](/source/prince_bishop) of [Passau](/source/Diocese_of_Passau).
