'''Josef Teichmann''' (* 27 August 1972 in [Lienz](/source/Lienz)) is an [Austria](/source/Austria)n mathematician and professor at [ETH Zürich](/source/ETH_Z%C3%BCrich) working on [mathematical finance](/source/mathematical_finance), stochastic analysis and machine learning.

After studying mathematics at the [University of Graz](/source/University_of_Graz), he pursued his [PhD](/source/PhD) at the [University of Vienna](/source/University_of_Vienna). The title of his dissertation in 1999 under the supervision of [Peter W. Michor](/source/Peter_W._Michor) was "The Theory of Infinite-Dimensional [Lie Group](/source/Lie_Group)s from the Point of View of [Functional Analysis](/source/Functional_analysis)".

After working at the [Vienna University of Technology](/source/Vienna_University_of_Technology), he obtained the [Habilitation](/source/Habilitation) there in 2002. Since June 2009 he has been a professor at the Department of Mathematics at ETH Zürich. Since August 2023 he has been chair of the Department of Mathematics at ETH Zürich.

In 2005 he was awarded the [Prize of the Austrian Mathematical Society](/source/Prize_of_the_Austrian_Mathematical_Society) and in 2006 the [Start-Preis](/source/Start-Preis) of the [FWF](/source/Austrian_Science_Fund).

In 2014 he was awarded the [Louis Bachelier Prize](/source/Louis_Bachelier_Prize) by the [French Academy of Sciences](/source/French_Academy_of_Sciences).
