**Jonathan Stinson** is an American singer and [composer](/source/Composer) of [opera](/source/Opera). Stinson is currently a voice professor and the Director of Opera at the [University of Arkansas](/source/University_of_Arkansas).

## Education

Stinson is a graduate of the [Oberlin Conservatory of Music](/source/Oberlin_Conservatory_of_Music) (2001), and [Indiana University School of Music](/source/Indiana_University_School_of_Music) (2004), and [University of Cincinnati - College-Conservatory of Music](/source/University_of_Cincinnati_-_College-Conservatory_of_Music) (2016).[1]

## Singing career

Stinson has performed with opera companies and festivals throughout the United States, including [Cincinnati Opera](/source/Cincinnati_Opera), [Lyric Opera of Kansas City](/source/Lyric_Opera_of_Kansas_City), [Opera Omaha](/source/Opera_Omaha), [Dayton Opera](/source/Dayton_Opera), Delaware Valley Opera, [Kentucky Opera](/source/Kentucky_Opera), [Opera Memphis](/source/Opera_Memphis), Opera New Jersey, [Cleveland Opera](/source/Cleveland_Opera), [Central City Opera](/source/Central_City_Opera), [Ohio Light Opera](/source/Ohio_Light_Opera), and the [Carmel Bach Festival](/source/Carmel_Bach_Festival). Stinson was previously a professor of voice at the [Crane School of Music](/source/Crane_School_of_Music) at [State University of New York at Potsdam](/source/State_University_of_New_York_at_Potsdam). He now teaches at the [University of Arkansas](/source/University_of_Arkansas) as the Director of Opera.

## Composing career

Stinson's [song cycles](/source/Song_cycle) have been performed in Indiana, Ohio, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Missouri, and Wisconsin. His first children's opera, *The Three Bears*, was commissioned by Opera Memphis and premiered in 2007. In 2011, Stinson's second children's opera, *Knightly News*, premiered in Chicago by the Chicago Opera Playhouse. During the 2012–2013 season, Atlanta Opera toured *Knightly News* throughout northern Georgia for 11 weeks.[2] In 2023, Stinson debuted his [monodramatic](/source/Monodrama) song cycle *Uncivil Relief* in Virginia.[3]
