Born and raised in [Arlington, Texas](/source/Arlington%2C_Texas), Murphy began acting in high school theater productions before moving on to community theater after graduating from [Texas Christian University](/source/Texas_Christian_University).

== Career ==
Murphy appeared in the [ABC](/source/American_Broadcasting_Company) television series ''[October Road](/source/October_Road_(TV_series))'' as [Ronnie Garrett](/source/Ronnie_Garrett) and joined the cast of the [ABC Family](/source/Freeform_(TV_channel)) series ''[Wildfire](/source/Wildfire_(2005_TV_series))'' as Calvin Handley in season four. Murphy was cast as [Chris Skelton](/source/Chris_Skelton) in the short-lived American version of ''[Life On Mars](/source/Life_on_Mars_(American_TV_series))'' opposite [Harvey Keitel](/source/Harvey_Keitel) and [Jason O'Mara](/source/Jason_O'Mara). He also appeared in a season three episode of ''[Ghost Whisperer](/source/Ghost_Whisperer)'' (3x15).
