# Jonathan Carril

**Jonathan Carril Regueiro** (born 28 February 1984) is a Spanish professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [centre forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)#Centre-forward).

## Football career

### Early years / Austria

Carril was born in [Boqueixón](/source/Boqueix%C3%B3n), [A Coruña](/source/Province_of_A_Coru%C3%B1a), Galicia. After years of playing only for amateur clubs or reserve squads ([Deportivo de La Coruña B](/source/Deportivo_de_La_Coru%C3%B1a_B), [Atlético Madrid B](/source/Atl%C3%A9tico_Madrid_B), [Levante UD B](/source/Levante_UD_B), [Racing de Ferrol](/source/Racing_de_Ferrol), [CD Linares](/source/CD_Linares), [UD Villa de Santa Brígida](/source/UD_Villa_de_Santa_Br%C3%ADgida) and [Santa Eulàlia](/source/SCR_Pe%C3%B1a_Deportiva)), he moved in summer 2009 to [Austria](/source/Austria), joining [SV Ried](/source/SV_Ried) in the [Bundesliga](/source/Austrian_Football_Bundesliga).[1]

On 13 March 2010, Carril scored his first goal in the Austrian top flight, in a 3–0 home win against [SV Mattersburg](/source/SV_Mattersburg) for [the season](/source/2009%E2%80%9310_Austrian_Football_Bundesliga)'s 27th round. In June, he switched to another team in the country, [SV Grödig](/source/SV_Gr%C3%B6dig).

### Hong Kong

On 29 May 2012, [Kitchee SC](/source/Kitchee_SC) general manager [Ken Ng](/source/Ken_Ng) announced that Carril would be joining the club, and the transfer was confirmed three days later.[2] He made an impressive debut, netting twice in a 3–0 win over [Sun Hei SC](/source/Sun_Hei_SC); however, the signing of compatriot [Pablo Couñago](/source/Pablo_Cou%C3%B1ago) saw him loaned out to [Southern District RSA](/source/Southern_District_RSA) for the rest of the season due to foreign player restriction quotas,[3] and he also scored in his maiden appearance, against [Sun Pegasus FC](/source/Sun_Pegasus_FC) in a 3–3 draw.

On 19 May 2013, Carril joined Southern District on a permanent contract.[4]

## Personal life

Carril's younger brother, [Iván](/source/Iv%C3%A1n_Carril), was also a footballer. Both had a very brief youth spell at [FC Barcelona](/source/FC_Barcelona), before finishing their footballing formation at local [Deportivo de La Coruña](/source/Deportivo_de_La_Coru%C3%B1a).[5]
