==Biography==
Paulien has a [BA](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) from [Atlantic Union College](/source/Atlantic_Union_College), and an [M.Div.](/source/Master_of_Divinity) and [Ph.D.](/source/Doctor_of_Philosophy) from Andrews University. His doctoral thesis, ''Decoding Revelation’s Trumpets: Literary Allusions and Interpretation of {{bibleverse||Revelation|8:7-12|NIV}}'' was completed in 1987. Prior to his Ph.D., he worked as a Seventh-day Adventist church pastor for several years in [New York City](/source/New_York_City).

He was professor of New Testament Interpretation at the [Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary](/source/Seventh-day_Adventist_Theological_Seminary) at Andrews University.
