===St Helens===
Neill was signed by [St Helens](/source/St_Helens_R.F.C.) from junior club [Kells](/source/Kells_A.R.L.F.C.) in 1987. He established a regular first team place during the [1990–91 season](/source/1990%E2%80%9391_Rugby_Football_League_season) and played in the [1990–91 Challenge Cup](/source/1990%E2%80%9391_Challenge_Cup) final, losing 8–13 against [Wigan](/source/Wigan_Warriors).

Neill played {{rlp|pr}} in St Helens' 24–14 victory over [Rochdale Hornets](/source/Rochdale_Hornets) in the [1991–92 Lancashire Cup](/source/1991%E2%80%9392_Lancashire_Cup) final during the [1991–92 season](/source/1991%E2%80%9392_Rugby_Football_League_season) on Sunday 20 October 1991. He also played in the [1991–92 Premiership](/source/1991%E2%80%9392_Rugby_League_Premiership) final at the end of the season, but lost 16–48 against Wigan.

In the following season, Neill played in the [1992–93 Premiership](/source/1992%E2%80%9393_Rugby_League_Premiership) final, but was on the winning side this time with a 10–4 victory against Wigan.
