'''Jon William Embree''' (born October 15, 1965) is an American [football](/source/American_football) coach and former player who most recently served as the assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the [Miami Dolphins](/source/Miami_Dolphins) of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL). He is a former [head coach](/source/head_coach) at [Colorado](/source/Colorado_Buffaloes_football). Prior to that, he was the tight ends coach for the [Washington Redskins](/source/Washington_Redskins) of the NFL. As a player, he spent two seasons in the NFL with the [Los Angeles Rams](/source/Los_Angeles_Rams) as a [tight end](/source/tight_end) until an injury ended his career. He was selected in the sixth round of the [1987 NFL draft](/source/1987_NFL_draft) by the Rams, after playing [college football](/source/college_football) at Colorado.
Embree previously coached for three seasons with the [Kansas City Chiefs](/source/Kansas_City_Chiefs), three with [UCLA](/source/UCLA_Bruins_football), one with the [Cleveland Browns](/source/Cleveland_Browns) and ten at Colorado. After his playing career ended, Embree entered television broadcasting, then was asked to volunteer coach in 1991 for the Buffaloes by head coach [Bill McCartney](/source/Bill_McCartney). Embree was a member of McCartney's first recruiting class as head coach in 1983. Embree attended [El Camino College Compton Center](/source/El_Camino_College_Compton_Center) in Los Angeles. Embree began serving on [Mike McDaniel](/source/Mike_McDaniel)'s [Miami Dolphins](/source/Miami_Dolphins) coaching staff during the 2022 campaign, serving as the team's assistant head coach and tight ends coach. Embree is the son of former NFL player [John Embree](/source/John_Embree_(American_football)), who was a wide receiver for the [Denver Broncos](/source/Denver_Broncos) in [1969](/source/1969_Denver_Broncos_season) and [1970](/source/1970_Denver_Broncos_season).
