**Jomal Evans Williams** (born 28 April 1994)[1] is a Trinidadian professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [winger](/source/Midfielder#Winger) for [Primera División](/source/Primera_Divisi%C3%B3n_de_F%C3%BAtbol_de_El_Salvador) club [Isidro Metapán](/source/A.D._Isidro_Metap%C3%A1n) and the [Trinidad and Tobago national team](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_football_team).

Williams' professional career began with [W Connection](/source/W_Connection_F.C.) in his native [Trinidad and Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago), where he made his first-team debut in 2011, at the age of 17. During his time with the *Savonetta Boys*, the team won the [TT Pro League](/source/TT_Pro_League) title and the [FA Trophy](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_Cup) during the [2013–14](/source/2013%E2%80%9314_TT_Pro_League) season. ## Early life

Williams was born on 28 April 1994 in [Port of Spain](/source/Port_of_Spain), Trinidad and Tobago. Jomal started playing [football](/source/Association_football) at the age of seven with local youth club Trendsetter Hawks at the [Queen's Park Savannah](/source/Queen's_Park_Savannah).[2]

## Club career

### W Connection

#### Beginnings and development (2011–2014)

In October 2014, Williams had a successful trial with [Pau FC](/source/Pau_FC) of [Championnat de France Amateur](/source/Championnat_de_France_Amateur), the fourth tier in French club football. However, due to the club experiencing financial difficulties, terms could not be agreed upon with parent club [W Connection](/source/W_Connection_F.C.) regarding a transfer fee and party responsible for paying the players' salary.

#### Transition to attacking midfielder (2015–2016)

Williams returned for the [2015–16](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_TT_Pro_League) season with [W Connection](/source/W_Connection_F.C.) as an [attacking midfielder](/source/Midfielder_(association_football)#Attacking_midfielder) in the first team and changed from the number 40 jersey in favour of number 10. During the [2015–16 CONCACAF Champions League](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_CONCACAF_Champions_League), he made three appearances against [Santos Laguna](/source/Santos_Laguna) and [Saprissa](/source/Deportivo_Saprissa) during W Connections's group stage matches. Afterwards, Williams provided five goals during the [First Citizens Cup](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_League_Cup) and [TOYOTA Classic](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_Classic) en route to W Connection claiming both crowns.[3][4] Consequently, he was named the [most valuable player](/source/Most_valuable_player) in both cup competitions.[5] One week later, he recorded his first career [hat-trick](/source/Hat-trick#Association_football) as a professional on 12 December against [St. Ann's Rangers](/source/St._Ann's_Rangers_F.C.).[6] Following his successful month, Williams was named Pro League [Player of the Month](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_TT_Pro_League#Monthly_awards) for December.[7]

In Pro League competition, Jomal benefited from the change in position to a more attacking role, left vacant following [Joevin Jones](/source/Joevin_Jones)' transfer to [Major League Soccer](/source/Major_League_Soccer), which led to a breakthrough season as the 21 year-old led the *Savonetta Boys* with 11 goals – his most Pro League goals in a season. In February 2016, he provided three goals for W Connection en route to finishing runners-up in the [2016 CFU Club Championship](/source/2016_CFU_Club_Championship) and secure qualification for the [2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_CONCACAF_Champions_League).[8]

### Murciélagos (loan)

On 9 June 2016, Williams signed along with former [W Connection](/source/W_Connection_F.C.) and [international](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_football_team) teammate [Shahdon Winchester](/source/Shahdon_Winchester) with Mexican club [Murciélagos](/source/Murci%C3%A9lagos_F.C.) of [Ascenso MX](/source/Ascenso_MX) prior to the start of the [2016 Apertura](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Ascenso_MX_season) for an undisclosed transfer.[9]

### Zira (loan)

On 7 February 2018, Williams signed for [Zira FK](/source/Zira_FK) on loan from [W Connection](/source/W_Connection_F.C.) until the end of the 2017/18 season.[10]

## International career

Williams has represented [Trinidad and Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago) on various levels of international competition, having been [capped](/source/Cap_(sport)) for the [under-17](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-17_football_team),[11] [under-20](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-20_football_team),[12] [under-23 Olympic team](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-23_football_team),[13] and the [Trinidad and Tobago national teams](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_football_team).[14]

### Youth teams

He began his international career for the [under-17](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-17_football_team) team during [qualification](/source/2011_CONCACAF_U-17_Championship_qualification) for the [2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship](/source/2011_CONCACAF_U-17_Championship), where Jomal scored a pair of goals in the final group stage match against [Bermuda](/source/Bermuda_national_football_team).[15][16][17] In February 2011, during the continental competition, Williams made an additional two starting appearances against [Jamaica](/source/Jamaica_national_under-17_football_team) and [Guatemala](/source/Guatemala_national_football_team), which witnessed [Trinidad and Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-17_football_team) advance to the quarterfinals following a respective draw and win.[18][19] However, the *Soca Warriors* would lose in the quarterfinals against [Canada](/source/Canada_men's_national_under-17_soccer_team).[20]

The following year, Williams was called up to the [under-23](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-23_football_team) team in preparation for their qualification attempt for the [2012 Summer Olympics](/source/Football_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics) in [London](/source/London).[13] He made one appearance after coming on as a 76th minute substitute for [Mekeil Williams](/source/Mekeil_Williams) during the final match, which ended in a 2–0 loss against [Honduras](/source/Honduras_national_under-23_football_team) that eliminated Trinidad and Tobago from the competition.[21] In August 2012, Williams scored two goals in three matches for the [under-20](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-20_football_team) team during their first round of [qualification](/source/2013_CONCACAF_U-20_Championship_qualifying#First_round) for the [2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship](/source/2013_CONCACAF_U-20_Championship).[22] However, in November 2012, he made three additional appearances for the *Soca Warriors*, which witnessed the team finish a disappointing bottom in their final [qualification](/source/2013_CONCACAF_U-20_Championship_qualifying#Final_Round).[23]

In June 2015, Williams made two appearances during another early exit for the [under-23](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-23_football_team) team from [qualification](/source/2015_CONCACAF_Men's_Olympic_Qualifying_Championship_qualification) for the [2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship](/source/2015_CONCACAF_Men's_Olympic_Qualifying_Championship) following a loss to [Saint Vincent and the Grenadines](/source/Saint_Vincent_and_the_Grenadines_national_football_team).[24][25] Although [Trinidad and Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_under-23_football_team) did not qualify for the [2016 Summer Olympics](/source/Football_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics) in [Rio de Janeiro](/source/Rio_de_Janeiro), the *Soca Warriors* participated in the [Pan American Games](/source/Football_at_the_2015_Pan_American_Games) hosted in [Toronto](/source/Toronto) the following month. #### International debut and first goal (2015–present)

Williams made his full international debut for the [national team](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_football_team) on 27 March 2015, at the age of 20, having come on as a substitute for [Shannon Gomez](/source/Shannon_Gomez) in the 77th minute against [Panama](/source/Panama_national_football_team).[14][28] After an impressive form for his club [W Connection](/source/W_Connection_F.C.) during the [2015–16](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_TT_Pro_League) season, Williams was called up for a friendly match against [Grenada](/source/Grenada_national_football_team) in [St. George's](/source/St._George's%2C_Grenada).[29] Two months later, he made an additional three appearances for the *Soca Warriors*, including two starts as [winger](/source/Midfielder_(association_football)#Winger).
