'''John Coleman Nee''' (January 15, 1890, in [Thayer, Missouri](/source/Thayer%2C_Missouri) – April 1957 in [St. Petersburg, Florida](/source/St._Petersburg%2C_Florida)) was a [major league baseball](/source/major_league_baseball) scout and a minor league [player-manager](/source/player-manager).

Nee, a young minor league [infielder](/source/infielder) of 22, was chosen to skipper the [Terre Haute](/source/Terre_Haute%2C_Indiana) team in [1912](/source/1912_in_baseball) as a player-manager. He served as a player-manager at many of his minor league stops including his last post as the leader of the [Virginia League](/source/Virginia_League) [Kinston Eagles](/source/Kinston_Eagles_(Virginia_League)) ([1925](/source/1925_in_baseball)-[1926](/source/1926_in_baseball)). During that final managerial season, one of his young charges was future [Hall of Fame](/source/National_Baseball_Hall_of_Fame_and_Museum) member [Rick Ferrell](/source/Rick_Ferrell).

Starting in [1927](/source/1927_in_baseball), Nee began a long career as a major league scout for the [New York Yankees](/source/New_York_Yankees) and was credited with discovering many future major leaguers including [Bill Dickey](/source/Bill_Dickey) and [Tommy Henrich](/source/Tommy_Henrich). He left the Yankees for the [Philadelphia Phillies](/source/Philadelphia_Phillies) in [1946](/source/1946_in_baseball). At the end of the [1949](/source/1949_in_baseball) season, Nee was named head of the Phillies [farm system](/source/farm_system). 

Nee and his wife of many years, Willa (née Harpe), lived in [Pinellas County, Florida](/source/Pinellas_County%2C_Florida), where Willa died in 1952 and Johnny died in 1957.
