# Johnny Linaker

**John Edward Linaker** (14 January 1927 – 14 June 2013) was an English [footballer](/source/Association_football).[1]

## Career

Linaker came to prominence during wartime [football](/source/Association_football), during which he played for [Everton](/source/Everton_F.C.) as an amateur and [Manchester City](/source/Manchester_City_F.C.), who he joined in August 1945.[2][3] After making no league appearances for City, he joined [Southport](/source/Southport_F.C.) in November 1946.[3] He joined [Nottingham Forest](/source/Nottingham_Forest_F.C.) in September 1947, after making 15 appearances and scoring one goal in the league for Southport.[3] He joined [York City](/source/York_City_F.C.) in June 1950 after making 15 appearances and scoring two goals in the league for Forest.[3] His form for the club attracted attention and joined [Hull City](/source/Hull_City_A.F.C.) in October 1951,[2] after making 63 appearances and scoring 16 goals for York.[3] He made 26 appearances and scored three goals for Hull before re-joining York in May 1953.[3] He joined non-league side [Scarborough](/source/Scarborough_F.C.) after making 40 appearances and scoring four goals for York in his second spell with the club.[2] He returned to [the Football League](/source/The_Football_League) with [Crewe Alexandra](/source/Crewe_Alexandra_F.C.) in July 1957.[3] He joined [Ashington](/source/Ashington_A.F.C.) after making 34 appearances and scoring three goals in the league for Crewe.[4]
