He was the father of [Ann Veneman](/source/Ann_Veneman), [United States Secretary of Agriculture](/source/United_States_Secretary_of_Agriculture) 2001–2005. The portion of [State Route 99](/source/State_Route_99_(California)) from the [Stanislaus County](/source/Stanislaus_County%2C_California) line to [State Route 132](/source/California_State_Route_132) in Modesto is named the "John G. Veneman Freeway". It was named by Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 171, Chapter 131, in 1984.
