==Career==
After starting professionally with a part in a radio serial, Tate then gained small roles in several movies. After his success in ''[On the Beach](/source/On_the_Beach_(1959_film))'', Tate decided to move to England in the 1960s. where he appeared in various television series including ''[The Saint](/source/The_Saint_(TV_series))'', ''[Danger Man](/source/Danger_Man)'', ''[Man of the World](/source/Man_of_the_World_(TV_series))'', The ''Champions'' and ''[Department S](/source/Department_S_(TV_series))''. He played [Magwitch](/source/Abel_Magwitch) in the 1967 television adaptation of ''[Great Expectations](/source/Great_Expectations_(1967_TV_series))'' He also voiced many guest stars in ''[Thunderbirds](/source/Thunderbirds_(TV_series))''. 

He played Captain SS Midland in the 1963 science fiction film, ''[The Day of the Triffids](/source/The_Day_of_the_Triffids_(film))'' and Julian Singleton in the 1963 musical comedy film ''[It’s All Happening](/source/It%E2%80%99s_All_Happening_(film))''. Tate was married to Margaret Anne Barton.
