# John Merrall

**John Edwin Merrall** (7 January 1909 – 5 October 1993) was an English [cricketer](/source/Cricket). Merrall was a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) who bowled right-arm [fast-medium](/source/Fast_bowling). He was born at [Shipley](/source/Shipley,_West_Yorkshire), [Yorkshire](/source/Yorkshire).

Marrall made two [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) appearances for [Surrey](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club), both against [Essex](/source/Essex_County_Cricket_Club) in 1931 and 1932, with both matches played at [The Oval](/source/The_Oval).[1] He took a total of 6 wickets in his two appearances, which came at an [average](/source/Bowling_average) of 25.50, with best figures of 3/24.[2] He played in the [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Championship) for the Surrey Second XI from 1930 to 1933, making thirteen appearances.[3] Playing for the second XI entitled him to be selected for the [Minor Counties cricket team](/source/Minor_Counties_cricket_team), with Merrall making a single first-class appearance for the team in 1934 against [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University_Cricket_Club) at the [University Parks](/source/University_Parks).[1] Incidentally he made no appearances for the Surrey Second XI in this season.

He died on the [Isle of Man](/source/Isle_of_Man) on 5 October 1993.
