# John Linaker (runner)

**John Henry Linaker** (born 16 November 1939) is an English-born former [track and field athlete](/source/Track_and_field_athletics) who competed for Scotland at the [1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games](/source/1966_British_Empire_and_Commonwealth_Games) (now Commonwealth Games).

## Biography

Linaker was born in [Southport](/source/Southport), England, but was a resident of Scotland for most of his life.[1] He was a member of the Pitreavie Amateur Athletic Club.[2]

He won six steeplechase titles at the Scottish AAA Championship in 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965 and 1966.[3] Additionally, he was the national cross country champion.[4]

Linaker represented the [Scottish Empire and Commonwealth Games team](/source/Scotland_at_the_1966_British_Empire_and_Commonwealth_Games)[5] at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in [Kingston](/source/Kingston,_Jamaica), Jamaica,[6] participating in one event, the [1 mile race](/source/Athletics_at_the_1966_British_Empire_and_Commonwealth_Games_%E2%80%93_Men's_1_mile).[7]
