Launder was a [husbandman](/source/husbandman) of the parish of [Godstone](/source/Godstone). He was seized with [Dirick Carver](/source/Dirick_Carver).

There is a memorial to John Launder in [Steyning](/source/Steyning) where he was martyred. The memorial is pictured on the website of Steyning Museum;<ref name=TheSteyningMartyr>{{Citation |url=https://steyningmuseum.org.uk/wp/steyning-museum/history-2/john-launder/ |website=steyningmuseum.org.uk |title=John Launder; The Steyning Martyr}}</ref> The event of his martyring has been described as "one of the darkest days in Steyning's 1200 year history."<ref name=TheSteyningMartyr/>
