# John Kessler

**John Kessler** (December 14, 1847 – June 12, 1917) was an American businessman and politician.

Born in the [Kingdom of Bavaria](/source/Kingdom_of_Bavaria), Kessler emigrated with his parents to the [United States](/source/United_States), in 1855, and settled in [Milwaukee, Wisconsin](/source/Milwaukee,_Wisconsin), Kessler was a cigar maker. He also lived in [Green Bay](/source/Green_Bay,_Wisconsin), [La Crosse](/source/La_Crosse,_Wisconsin), [Oconomowoc](/source/Oconomowoc,_Wisconsin), [Kenosha](/source/Kenosha,_Wisconsin), [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin), [Chicago, Wisconsin](/source/Chicago,_Wisconsin), and [Council Bluffs, Iowa](/source/Council_Bluffs,_Iowa). In 1868, Kessler settled in [Watertown, Wisconsin](/source/Watertown,_Wisconsin). He served as the Watertown City Treasurer. Kessler also served on the Watertown Common Council from 1895 to 1897 and was a [Democrat](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)). In 1899, Kessler served in the [Wisconsin State Assembly](/source/Wisconsin_State_Assembly). Kessler died at his home in [Watertown, Wisconsin](/source/Watertown,_Wisconsin).[1][2]
