**John Robert Gaskey** (born February 9, 1970) is an American politician who is a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) member of the [Massachusetts House of Representatives](/source/Massachusetts_House_of_Representatives). He has represented the [2nd Plymouth](/source/Massachusetts_House_of_Representatives'_2nd_Plymouth_district) district since 2025.[1]

## Background

Gaskey was born on February 9, 1970 in [El Paso, Texas](/source/El_Paso%2C_Texas) to a military family. His sister serves in the [United States Marine Corps](/source/United_States_Marine_Corps), his father was in the [United States Navy](/source/United_States_Navy) during the [Vietnam War](/source/Vietnam_War), his grandfather served in [World War II](/source/World_War_II) in the [Pacific Theater](/source/Pacific_War), and his great-grandfather served in [World War I](/source/World_War_I). As a member of the [United States Coast Guard](/source/United_States_Coast_Guard), Gaskey was stationed in [Massachusetts](/source/Massachusetts) during the [September 11 attacks](/source/September_11_attacks). During Gaskey's time in the Coast Guard, he served on the [USCGC *Escanaba*](/source/USCGC_Escanaba_(WMEC-907)). ## Elections

### 2024

Gaskey won election to the 2nd Plymouth District seat in [2024](/source/2024_Massachusetts_House_of_Representatives_election). He challenged eleven-term incumbent [Susan Williams Gifford](/source/Susan_Williams_Gifford) in the Republican primary, emphasizing his conservative stance on immigration issues, and ultimately defeated Gifford by eighteen points.[3] In the general election on November 5, 2024, Gaskey faced [Democrat](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) Sarah G. Hewins, a longtime member of the [Carver](/source/Carver%2C_Massachusetts) [Select Board](/source/Select_board) who ran as a write-in candidate and obtained approximately 11% of the vote to 89% for Gaskey.[4][5]

### 2026

Gaskey has announced his intention to run for re-election in [2026](/source/2026_Massachusetts_House_of_Representatives_election).[6] He faces a challenge in the Republican primary from Carver selectman Mark Townsend, while his 2024 opponent Sarah Hewins has announced her intention to run again as a Democrat.[7][8]
