He was elected to the [National Parliament](/source/National_Parliament_of_Solomon_Islands) as MP for [West Kwaio](/source/West_Kwaio) in the [December 2001 general election](/source/2001_Solomon_Islands_general_election).<ref name="Biography"/> In May 2003, he was elected [Leader of the Official Opposition](/source/Leader_of_the_Opposition_(Solomon_Islands)).
