# John Frewer

**John Frewer** [CBE](/source/CBE) (1 November 1883 – 7 December 1974[1]) was an [Anglican](/source/Anglican) [bishop](/source/Bishop) in [Australia](/source/Australia).[2]

Frewer was born in [Fulletby, Lincolnshire](/source/Fulletby). He was educated at [The King's School, Canterbury](/source/The_King's_School,_Canterbury) and Lincoln Theological College.[3] He was ordained priest in 1909 and, after being a [curate](/source/Curate) in [Boston, Lincolnshire](/source/Boston,_Lincolnshire), he emigrated to Australia[4] where he became [domestic chaplain](/source/Chaplain) to the [Bishop of Bunbury](/source/Anglican_Diocese_of_Bunbury) — eventually becoming a [canon](/source/Canon_(priest)) of the diocese. A member of the Brotherhood of St Boniface, he was their [warden](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/warden) from 1919 until his ordination to the [episcopate](/source/Episcopate).

Frewer served as second Bishop of North West Australia from 1929 to 1965.[4] He retired to [Perth, Western Australia](/source/Perth,_Western_Australia) and died on 7 December 1974 at [Mount Lawley](/source/Mount_Lawley,_Western_Australia), Perth, and was cremated; his ashes were placed in the [Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Geraldton](/source/Cathedral_of_the_Holy_Cross,_Geraldton).[4]
