# John Cheale

**John Cheale** (died 28 August 1685) was an English politician who sat in the [House of Commons](/source/House_of_Commons_of_England) from 1679 to 1681.

Cheale was of a West Sussex yeoman family[1] from Perching in [Edburton](/source/Edburton). In 1650 he purchased the manor of [Findon, West Sussex](/source/Findon,_West_Sussex)[2] from John Tufton Earl of Thanet.

Cheale was elected [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament) (MP) for [New Shoreham](/source/New_Shoreham_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in 1679 and held the seat until 1681.[3]

Cheale's grandson, another [John Cheale](/source/John_Cheale_(officer_of_arms)) was [Norroy King of Arms](/source/Norroy_King_of_Arms).[2]
