# John Berry (priest)

**John Harcourt Berry** (1849- 1923) was a [Church of England](/source/Church_of_England) priest and [Royal Navy](/source/Royal_Navy) [chaplain](/source/Military_chaplain). He was the [Chaplain of the Fleet](/source/Chaplain_of_the_Fleet), serving from 1899 to 1901.[1]

Berry was educated at [Christ Church, Oxford](/source/Christ_Church,_Oxford).[2] He was [ordained](/source/Ordained) [deacon](/source/Deacon) in 1874 and [priest](/source/Priest) in 1875 and began his ecclesiastical career with a curacy at [Preston-on-Stour](/source/Preston-on-Stour).[3] He served with the Navy from 1876[4] to[5] 1901[6]

Berry was appointed an Honorary Chaplain to the King on 27 March 1902.[7]
